WebbHistory – Sandy's Sandy's History In the summer of 1945, Andy Harris, his wife Goldie and their daughter Sandy (for whom the business was named) along with their friend and business partner Glen Teter, moved to Austin from Akron, Ohio. After obtaining a 99 year lease from Rosa McPhail of McPhail’s Florist, construction began in October of 1945.

WebbHere’s what you should know: It opened in 1926 as a drive-in and a tiny kitchen with 8 barstools. The space next door (which is now part of the restaurant) was acquired as part of Martin’s later. It had a dirt floor until 1951, hence the nickname “Dirty’s.” (Don’t worry….it’s not named that because it’s actually a dirty place.)
